Three mattresses and a staircase in Burleigh Waters

Dean Watson · Mattress Removal · Burleigh Waters

The story

Living in Burleigh Waters, you get used to council collections that are always months away. My son moved out and left his old mattress and bed base behind. It had been leaning against the wall of the spare room for months.

The queens were the old pillow-top kind, heavy and floppy. The single was a kid's mattress with a waterproof protector glued on with age.

Burleigh Waters is quiet canal and lake streets full of long-term family homes, and getting things out isn't always simple. Generous driveways and easy kerbside loading.

They offered a time the next morning. I asked if they needed me to move anything to the kerb first, and they said no, they'd take it from where it was.

They arrived a few minutes early, introduced themselves and did a quick walk-around. The price they gave me was a bit under what I'd budgeted, which was a pleasant surprise.

The spring was sticking right out of the side. They taped it down before carrying it so nobody, me included, got stabbed on the way out.

The space is unrecognisable. I keep walking past it just to look. I'd use them again without thinking about it, and I've already passed the number on to my sister.

If I'm honest, the hardest part was deciding to do it. Once that was done, it was easy.
