Three mattresses and a staircase in Miami
Tim Russo · Mattress Removal · Miami
The story
I'm in Miami, and I'll be honest: I put this off for far too long. My son moved out and left his old mattress and bed base behind. It had been leaning against the wall of the spare room for months.
The queens were the old pillow-top kind, heavy and floppy. The single was a kid's mattress with a waterproof protector glued on with age.
Miami is a beachside suburb of older units, cafes and hillside homes, and getting things out isn't always simple. Stair access and shared driveways are common.
They offered a time the next morning. I asked if they needed me to move anything to the kerb first, and they said no, they'd take it from where it was.
They arrived a few minutes early, introduced themselves and did a quick walk-around. The price they gave me was a bit under what I'd budgeted, which was a pleasant surprise.
The spring was sticking right out of the side. They taped it down before carrying it so nobody, me included, got stabbed on the way out.
The space is unrecognisable. I keep walking past it just to look. I'd use them again without thinking about it, and I've already passed the number on to my sister.
If I'm honest, the hardest part was deciding to do it. Once that was done, it was easy.
