The night before the removalists in Currumbin
Adam Thompson · Moving Out Rubbish Removal · Currumbin
The story
I'm in Currumbin, and I'll be honest: I put this off for far too long. The removalists were booked for 8am. At 9pm the night before, I realised we had a garage full of stuff we'd agreed wasn't coming.
A cheap flat-pack wardrobe, a broken outdoor setting, old mattresses from the spare room, a bar fridge, and about twenty boxes of stuff we'd decided we could live without.
Currumbin is a creek-and-valley suburb with beach cottages and hinterland acreage, and getting things out isn't always simple. Valley roads suit medium trucks; we allow extra travel time.
I sent a couple of photos and got a call back within the hour. They gave me a rough idea on the phone but said they'd confirm a fixed price when they saw it in person.
They parked so the back of the truck lined up with the side gate, put a drop sheet down at the door and asked me to show them anything that was staying.
They were there at 6:45am, and by 7:40 the garage was empty and swept. The removalists turned up to a clean space and had no idea anything had been there.
By the time I'd made them a coffee, it was nearly finished. The price didn't change, and they even took a couple of extra bits I'd forgotten about without charging more.
I'd tried to do it myself twice before. Next time I'm just ringing straight away.
