The night before the removalists in Runaway Bay
Paul Hayes · Moving Out Rubbish Removal · Runaway Bay
The story
We've been in Runaway Bay for a while now, and this was the first time I'd paid someone to take rubbish away. The removalists were booked for 8am. At 9pm the night before, I realised we had a garage full of stuff we'd agreed wasn't coming.
A cheap flat-pack wardrobe, a broken outdoor setting, old mattresses from the spare room, a bar fridge, and about twenty boxes of stuff we'd decided we could live without.
Runaway Bay is canal-front homes with pontoons, boat sheds and manicured gardens, and getting things out isn't always simple. We protect pavers and lawns when carrying loads out from behind pool fencing.
They offered a time the next morning. I asked if they needed me to move anything to the kerb first, and they said no, they'd take it from where it was.
They arrived a few minutes early, introduced themselves and did a quick walk-around. The price they gave me was a bit under what I'd budgeted, which was a pleasant surprise.
They were there at 6:45am, and by 7:40 the garage was empty and swept. The removalists turned up to a clean space and had no idea anything had been there.
The space is unrecognisable. I keep walking past it just to look. I'd use them again without thinking about it, and I've already passed the number on to my sister.
If I'm honest, the hardest part was deciding to do it. Once that was done, it was easy.
